The Mississippi Center for Justice (“MCJ”) seeks a talented Health Outreach and Story Collection Coordinator whose substantive focus is access to healthcare with an emphasis on Medicaid expansion.
MCJ is a nonprofit, public interest law firm committed to advancing racial, social, and economic justice statewide.
Our lawyers work with community leaders to support their social justice campaigns and to channel the energies of the legal community to combat discrimination and poverty.
With offices in Jackson, Biloxi, and Indianola, we seek systemic solutions that support a fair and just criminal justice system for juveniles and adults, protect the rights of consumers, secure access to healthcare, protect voting rights for all, and make fair and affordable housing available for all Mississippians.
*Position Summary * The Health Outreach and Story Collection Coordinator will work in the Health Law Campaign to reach out into diverse communities to develop partner relationships, identify individuals in communities across Mississippi impacted by healthcare policy and identify Mississippians who are willing to share their personal experiences within our health care system.
The coordinator will also need to be able to maintain relationships with individuals who provide their story to continue their engagement in ongoing advocacy efforts around Medicaid expansion and other access to healthcare issues in Mississippi.
*Job Responsibilities* This is a full-time, in-person, position based in Jackson, Mississippi and reports to the Director of MCJ’s Health Law Campaign.
The Health Outreach and Story Collections Coordinator’s duties will include: · Collect, develop and document consumer stories in an ongoing effort to bring new stories into the public eye focused on Medicaid expansion, affordability issues in private insurance and the uninsured.
· Assists with public education, trainings and information efforts related to story collection program in include public speaking and social media platforms.
· Organize and maintain a “story bank” of the experiences of uninsured Mississippians.
· Cultivate relationships with statewide and local organizations who can assist with story collections efforts.
Maintains communication with, and provide assistance to coalitions, project volunteers, and sub-grantees with story collection.
· Draft detailed interview notes for every potential storyteller encounter.
Record video/audio as necessary to help prepare written notes that capture stories.
Capture photos and/or videos of storytellers.
Work with communications staff to share stories in various social media platforms.
· In cooperation with the Health Law Director, develop a detailed workplan for the project to include education and storyteller outreach, reasonable goals for story collections, and identify key timelines for story needs for policy support.
· Maintain administrative reports and statistical information on activities as assigned.
And other related tasks as determined by the Health Law Director.
*Qualifications* · Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university · Excellent communicator with interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport and trust with diverse Mississippians.
· Strong writing and editing skills, as well as the ability to adopt the style, tone, and voice of the storyteller when appropriate.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel and PowerPoint; experience with Canva and Adobe · Upbeat, highly collaborative, and professional · Excellent people and communication skills; able to interact at all levels inside and outside the organization · Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with many different stakeholders and constituencies.
· Self-motivated and detail-oriented; able to work autonomously with the highest degree of confidentiality.
· Will organized and detail oriented with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
· Willing to bring forward new ideas and creativity is essential.
Job Type: Full-time Pay: From $36,078.
